A Look Back At 2019

January is a time that we anticipate fresh starts, new achievements and better health. We want to put the past behind us and embrace all that is right. It is a time to acknowledge those who have positively impacted us and those who made us smile. We recognize the importance of reflecting on the past year or even the past decade to see what we got right. Conversely, we want to see where we went wrong so we might avoid the same mistakes.

State Attorney Jeff Siegmeister retiring

Effective Monday, December 23, 2019, Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney Jeff Siegmeister has announced he is retiring after serving the circuit since 2012.

According to a statement released on his behalf by a Gainesville attorney, Bobi J. Frank, Siegmeister is retiring because of a personal matter he is working through, specifically his marriage to Jamie Siegmeister, of 13 years.

Agriculture has always been the economic cornerstone of North Florida. It continues to drive our economy, and probably always will. Every crop is, in a way, a field of dreams. The past few decades, however, have brought immense changes to the social impact that agriculture has on our North Florida communities.
The whole landscape of agriculture in our area has certainly changed. Row crops are grown under pivot irrigation systems and ground is prepared with gigantic tractors that are equipped with global positioning systems.

Several cases of new car fever have recently been detected around campus at Branford High School. Of course, it would be difficult for even the most frugal to avoid contracting new car fever after the Drive 4 UR School event, which was held at BHS on May 11.
The event, which was sponsored by Walt’s Live Oak Ford, showcased some very alluring vehicles ranging from the sporty Mustang to the powerful F250 Lariat, which is equipped to handle even the most difficult tasks. It is no doubt the event attracted numerous test-drivers.

NFC’s new Live Oak location is now official

The Union Depot and Atlantic Coast Line Freight Station is a historic site in Live Oak. Today, it is celebrated as the new satellite location of North Florida College (NFC). More than 200 Suwannee County residents, along with county and city officials, attended the event to show their support earlier this month when NFC held their grand opening at the historic location.
“It’s an exciting time,” exclaimed North Florida College President John Grosskopf. “We are thrilled to be here.”
Streams of visitors kept coming as the jam-packed train depot bursted at its seams with guests excited about the college extending classes to Live Oak. The overflow gathered at the passenger depot located behind the Suwannee County Historical Museum where a long table of inviting hors d’oeuvres and refreshments waited for guests to savour allowing everyone a chance to mingle.

Madison, Fla., - North Florida College invites the community to help celebrate the opening of its new location in Live Oak. The new location officially opened at 210 Ohio Avenue North on Monday, July 8, with an open house celebration scheduled for Thursday, July 11 from 3-7 PM. All are invited to attend the grand opening celebration. Refreshments will be served from 4-6 PM. and the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce will help welcome the new location to Live Oak with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 PM.
