Lindsey Covington - Last week HCA Florida Lake City Hospital welcomed community members of all ages for an exciting and educational Robotics Night on Thursday, April 30. The family-friendly event combined cutting-edge medical technology with interactive experiences, offering attendees a unique look into surgical care.
Families experienced live robotic demonstrations led by HCA’s Lake City surgeons who showcased the precision and advanced capabilities of robotic-assisted surgery. Through demonstrations and Q&A opportunities, attendees gained valuable insight into how robotics is transforming patient care by enhancing accuracy, minimizing invasiveness, and improving recovery times. Attendees also had the opportunity to operate the robotic system themselves through interactive, game-based experiences.
“Our goal is to ensure our community understands the level of advanced care available right here at home,” said Jamil Wilcox, chief operating officer of the Hospital. “Events like Robotics Night allow us to showcase the sophisticated technology we use every day while creating meaningful, engaging experiences for families.”
In addition to the demonstrations, the hospital’s surgical care team provided hands-on opportunities for guests to explore the instruments used in real procedures, offering a behind-the-scenes perspective on modern operating rooms. Families enjoyed a range of engaging activities designed to make complex technology accessible and fun, including a life-sized Operations game for children, robotic trivia, and other interactive experiences.
HCA Florida Lake City Hospital is recognized for its commitment to surgical excellence, supported by advanced technology and a highly skilled clinical team. The hospital’s surgical nursing unit was honored with the prestigious HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction Award, recognizing exceptional patient care and team performance. In addition, HCA Florida Lake City Hospital’s surgical services were nationally recognized by Healthgrades in 2026 for excellence in gallbladder surgery, outpatient orthopedic surgery, outpatient rotator cuff repair, and outpatient total knee replacement—underscoring the hospital’s dedication to delivering high-quality, patient-centered surgical care close to home.
