Tax Collector’s Offices reopen lobbies

As residents and businesses in North Florida look forward to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses and organizations are reopening with restrictions. Most of the County Tax Collector’s offices in Florida reopened their doors last week as part of the Phase 1 program, but also with restrictions.


Columbia, Suwannee, Hamilton and Madison County Tax Collector’s offices have all reopened, but some lobby transactions are limited. Residents are encouraged to visit their respective county’s Tax Collector’s website as most transactions can be completed online and further information about the office’s current status may be obtained.


A screening process will be set up for those with appointments and the requirements may differ slightly from county to county. Most residents can expect to be greeted at the door with a temperature check via a no-touch thermometer and will be asked some health questions before being allowed to enter the lobby. Some offices are requiring masks be worn. They are asking for social distancing guidelines to be maintained and only the person or persons directly involved in the transaction will be allowed in the lobby.

Here are some of the guidelines currently posted by county:

COLUMBIA COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR’S OFFICE, located at 135 NE Hernando Avenue, Suite 125 in Lake City.

The drive-thru is open regular hours, Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 5:30 pm for all other transactions.

Driver License and Concealed Weapon Appointments must be scheduled online at  www.columbiataxcollector.com

COLUMBIA GUIDELINES:

*We are asking that you limit each appointment to one person, except Driver License transactions where a parent and child must be present.

*Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment time and no later than 5 minutes after your appointment time.

*Please adhere to social distancing guidelines (remain 6 feet apart at all times)

*Upon entering the building you will be subject to a health screening and temperature check via no-touch thermometer. Temperatures above 100.3°F will not be permitted into the service lobby.

The Fort White Office will not be opening until further notice.


SUWANNEE COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR’S OFFICE located at 215 Pine Avenue SW, Suite A in Live Oak has currently posted temporary office hours serving Suwannee County residents ONLY.

SUWANNEE GUIDELINES:
*All CDC social distancing guidelines must be followed and will be enforced.

*Only a limited amount of customers will be allowed in the office at one time.

*Everyone must wear a protective face mask before entering into the office (Masks will not be provided by the office).

*Everyone will be screened at the front door before entering the office.       

*Only customers doing transactions will be allowed.  no one will be allowed to accompany you.

*All customers must present proof of residency before entering the office.

*Driver license road skills will not be administered at our office until further notice.

*All concealed weapons services will resume. however, until further notice, you must make an appointment. please call 386.362.2816.

*Until further notice, general knowledge computer testing and cdl testing will be offered by appointment only. Please call 386.362.2816 for an appointment.

*We encourage everyone to utilize the outside drop box, mail and online services for tag renewals and tax payments. please do not leave cash in the drop box.

*Property taxes must be paid with certified funds only. no personal checks will be accepted. If you choose to leave tag renewals in the drop box, you must include the mail fees.

*At this time, you may also renew tags and pay property taxes by phone, mail and credit card service fees will apply. Please call 386.362.2816 for phone payments.


*For disabled individuals, please call 386.362.2816 for instructions on entering the office.


If you would like to continue to social distance, extensions for Florida Driver License, ID’s  and concealed weapons are available. You will be required to print the emergency order and keep it with your existing license.


THE BRANFORD OFFICE AND DOWLING PARK OFFICE WILL NOT BE OPEN DURING THE MONTH OF MAY



MADISON COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR’S OFFICE will be open for Madison County residents only. As a precaution they are encouraging customers to take advantage of their online services rather than visiting their office.


Driver’s License late charges have been suspended for the driver’s license and ID cards set to expire within the next 30 days.  The people with birthdays between March 15th and April 15th, will be granted a 30 day extension beyond their current expiration date.


Tags can be renewed on line at Gorenew.com, by mail or dropped into our drop box (do not put cash in our drop box). Property taxes can be paid online at Madisoncountytaxcollector.com, mailed in or dropped into our drop box next door.

No other guidelines for Madison were posted at the time this story went to print.

HAMILTON COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR’S OFFICE is located in the Courthouse and is allowing Hamilton County residents ONLY in. The courthouse is located at 207 NE First Street, Room 104 in Jasper.
