Winter Storm Watch

Columbia County, FL - According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, FL. Columbia County could see the potential for freezing rain beginning at 11:00 pm Tuesday and continuing until 2:00 am Wednesday. The potential for freezing rain will continue through the morning hours on Wednesday, with a shift to rain at 9:00 am. In areas north of Interstate 10, there is a potential for rain/snow mix after 4:00 pm on Wednesday. Columbia County is currently under a winter storm watch, and a freeze watch has been issued from 10:00pm Tuesday until 9:00 am Wednesday.

  Please use caution when traveling over any overpass or bridge, they have the potential to freeze easily. Unless necessary, please limit your travel on roadways. If you must travel on the roads, please use caution and be aware of conditions around you. Please check with your employer if you are unsure about traveling to work. During these winter conditions, remember the four “P’s” (Pets, Plants, Pipes, and People) and insure that appropriate preparations have been made. Government offices WILL BE open on Wednesday.

Parkview Baptist Church, 268 NW Lake Jeffrey Road, Lake City, is available as a cold night shelter. They open when temperatures get to 35 degrees or below. The shelter will be open through the night, showers are available, and breakfast will be served at 6:30 a.m. The shelter hours are typically, 5:30 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning.

Columbia County Emergency Management will continue to monitor the conditions and will release any updated information as we receive it.
