State Park Closures for Hurricane Irma

~State parks closed to ensure visitor safety~


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Park Service announces the closure of 132 state parks and five additional campgrounds across the state due to imminent weather conditions including strong winds and rain. Preparations are being made to close an additional six parks and one campground by noon tomorrow.
The following state parks are closed until further notice:

Suwannee River State Park (Hamilton, Madison and Suwannee counties)

The following state parks will be closed by noon tomorrow:

O'Leno State Park (Alachua and Columbia counties)

Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park (Baker County)

Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park (Alachua County)

Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park (Hamilton and Columbia counties)

Suwannee River State Park (Hamilton, Madison and Suwannee counties)

The following state park campground will be closed by 9 a.m. on Saturday, but its 
day-use area is open:

Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park (Franklin County)

All other Florida State Parks remain open at this time.


Visitor safety is paramount in the decision to close and open Florida State Parks during times of severe weather. Additionally, Florida State Parks are in constant communication with state and local emergency operations centers and will close based on conditions and location.
